Hello, I am running "Darklands" on Dosbox (latest version), and I've been able to play it fine. The problem is, after a day of playing, and I shut it down, the next time I launch it I am given "Unknown Error" followed by "This operation is cancelled due to restrictions on this computer." So I uninstall Dosbox, then reinstall it, and I am able to play again. That, as you can imagine, will get to be quite a headache if I have to uninstall and reinstall this program every day.

I'm running it on WinME, using an off-the-shelf Athalon system (2gh, 256 ram), don't know what kind of motherboard it is or anything. Any idea what is causing this, and how to stop it?

You should seriously consider the idea of changing your winME for a WinXP... WInME is the master shit of all OS...

vchrist, if something, like DOSBox itself, is corrupting the DOSBox files, how about making all the files in the Programs\DOSBox folder read-only? And make the folder itself read-only as well?

Or - after a fresh install, zip the DOSBox directory, and then simpy unzip it when it has become corrupted?

Either method will work if it is the DOSBox files, that are being damaged.

Another possibility is that some INI-file or registry-key is being damaged. For testing the INI-files, I would first create a 'white-list', that is, start a COMMAND prompt, do a DIR /S C:\WINDOWS > C:\TEMP\WHITELIST.TXT. Run DOSBox as usual, and when it refuses to start, repeate the DIR /S command, but save the output as BLACKLIST.TXT. Now compare the whitelist and the blacklist. If they differ, see if you can spot the offending file(s), and make a guess if the change is valid or suspect.
