I have a socket 7 system using the Asus TX97-E board, latest BIOS is installed. 1.12e... Windows 98se runs great on the system, however I dropped in a 2nd harddrive to install Windows 95C. The problem is once 95c is installed, I run the Intel INF utility (Version 2.9), and it installs fine however on reboot with-in seconds of reaching the Windows Desktop, the entire system hardlocks.

Any idea's? Should I try a lower version of the Intel INF's? Windows 98se with the exact same INF utility (2.9) runs great.

Hmm the only time I've seen severe hard locks like this was in relation to DMA mode. Does the Intel driver maybe enable DMA or install some DMA bus muster driver?

A way to solve this is to go into the BIOS, set the IDE mode to a non DMA mode, boot again. If it boots, go into device manager > disk and un-tick the DMA box.

But this is just a guess, could be something else.

Does booting into safe mode, then shutting down, then booting again maybe work?
