I'm a dosbox enthusiast and I use the vanilla and ykhwong builds for such a long time.
Well...this is the first time I come up with a problem like this.

I wanted to test 3dfx acceleration in Toshinden, I got an image (bin+cue) of the game cdrom and I mounted it using imgmount command
(imgmount d "<cuesheet path>" -t iso -fs iso). But when I run the game it alerts me that "no cd detected" at the main menu and I cannot access to anything because the game thinks the cdrom is not in the drive. The weird thing is that during the game intro one of the cdrom audio tracks plays correctly. I even tried mounting the image using daemon tools and then mounting the virtual cdrom using the mount command, same result: the game keeps not finding the frickin cdrom! Game cdrom version is 2.1, I installed a patch to upgrade the game to 2.5, adding support for 3dfx cards.

Game bug? Known problem? Help anyone?

Maybe copy protection? Try with the real CD and if that works, re-image with a different program or chose some other way of handling bad sectors

I investigated and you're right: it's a copy protected game. As weird as it can be, it's a pure dos copy protected game! I thought only windows games used this type of protections. And it appears that back in the old days even a scene group released v2.1 (found nothing about v2.5) 😒

Strange. I have tested the game with DOSBox (Kekko Voodoo1 emulation). It works perfectly w/o cd in a drive.
And the 3dfx patch replaces tsd.exe and setup.exe so all protection will be removed...
The only difference - I always use virtual cd (A120% FE) and just use "mount d i:\ -t cdrom".

Problem fixed. Thanks Gamecollector&Dominus. It was due to a bad cdrom image.
