Hi,

I've some 486 cpus but no mainboard to run the 3.3/4volt, so I was thinking even if I know that Socket 7 has different pinout, has anyone ever tried to adapt a 486 into that socket with any adapter?

I know about the voltage converter for older mainboard but I think my decpc 486 mainboard would not recognize the DX4-100 very well. I've tried risking to burn the cpu to run with it, it strangely booted and even get to almost install W95 but very unstable and recognized as 486DX3.. I don't think it was running at 5v cause it wasn't that hot (not more that the DX2 with a usual heatsink).
I think this mainboard only supported the 25/50/66 cpus and everything else running isn't that good. I tried a Cyrix 66 5v and recognized as DX3 itself, running cool without heatsink but no reason to let in installed considering was slower.
I've this Intel 486 DX4-100 and cannot test it.. 🙁

I would say there is almost no chance of it working. Totally different chipset.

Also, I am quite sure it WAS running at 5V. Even at 5V, the 486DX/100 heat output is quite tameable. Still isn't recommended to overvolt

Yeah I think that too honestly but I hoped in some kind of self voltage recognition. This is a quiet newer card considering from '93 with both PS2 and IDE interface. But anyway DX2/66 is what I can try with it and actually posting with. 😁
Only 36MB is the compatible simms I've got and there''s this S3 805 1MB onboard chip with an incredible good quality w95 video experience.

Just build yourself a Super 7 rig and do the usual tweaks that others have written about to emulate 386/486 performance without the fuss. You could look into 486 era laptops as those are fun.
