Hello!
I decided it was time to finally try my Covox SM2 tonight. Installed the card in my PC, ran the installation disk, executed the test software (tests FM and digital). All good.

Ultima VI is compatible with the original Covox Sound Master, so I figured that the Sound Master II would provide backwards-compatibility to the original Sound Master.
It seems not, because no music came out.

Reading the manual, it seems that the SM2 is compatible with the VoiceMaster, Speech Thing, Adlib and Sound Blaster. Nothing more, nothing less.

Am-I missing something or is the SM2 really not compatible with the SM1?

The more sound cards, the better.

There were 3 Covox Sound Masters. The Sound Master plus and Sound Master 2 are not compatible with the original. OPL2 vs GI AY- 8930.

As far as DAC Compatibility i'm not sure but i don't think these cards are compatible at all.

Also, Ultima 6 strictly supports PC Speaker for sound effects, so the digital output capabilities of the Sound Master II go completely unused. If you want to confirm the compatibility of the Sound Master II, try Super Jeopardy, which supports both Speech Thing and Voice Master.

I am not sure whether a Sound Master II is simply a combination of Voice Master + Adlib + Proprietary MIDI interface, but I suspect that it is.
