Hello Everyone,

I managed to get my hands on an XR385 and attempted to attach it to my Sound Blaster 16 (CT2290). Well, I found out that the female connector end on the daughterboard gets in the way of the "CD_in" connector on the CT2290. I really don't want to take a knife and take a slice out of the connector. Anyone have a better idea on how to solve this?

Also, any idea on where I can find pegs for the daughterboard? It's a little unsettling seeing the daughterboard just floating there without additional support, aside from the waveblaster connector.

Ha, I had this problem too. I used a file and carefully shaved some plastic off the XR385's connector, which worked fine. A little nerve wracking though! You could also de-solder the black CD-IN, or just replace the CT2290 with a CT2230 - same card but doesn't have this problem.

Another option - I'm full of suggestions! - is to use an extension cable to connect the daughterboard (i.e mount the DB somewhere else in the case). This would solve your plastic stand-off problem too.

Life? Don't talk to me about life.

Maybe these would work ?:

You can easily remove that plastic piece by hand. Just pull it off steadily.

Thanks for all of the replies.

@badmojo: I'll try and find an extension cable while I pursue other options; it might just come in handy later.

@Stojke: I never really thought of trying something like that. I'm always a little cautious about my retro pieces, so the thought never really popped up.

@bestemor: These might actually work. I'll order a few and give them a shot.

I just snapped my off, there are other CD inputs in the card, and i can just as easily solder a new one.
