Yo!
So, as I am writing this message i am also closing a shit ton of tabs. I have ADHD and I started doing a lot of searching but it's hard to stay consistent when u switch to one tab after another because you get frustrated and can't find what you want.
Let me tell you the whole story.
I want(ed) to play through all of the TES games, starting with Arena, than Daggerfall, since I haven't played those. Since i haven't used the dosbox ever, I grabbed a nice version I found online: arenasetup, i think it is, with the latest patch, dosbox included, perfect for a noob like me. Just clicked that dosbox.exe and BAM! there's the game, working and all...
- Started reading a bit on the net about improving the quality/performance cause it looked really ugly as default and king of slow.
- Found what I was looking for, the dosbox config file, after some hours, got the settings I wanted, with the core cycles dynamic and max, the scaling(2xsai), the aspect ration etc and I was happy.
- Found some video on utube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHVpa3Onhv0) about direct 3d and some 6xHQ scaling and was like wut! I need that! Read some more around and found out it probably comes from pixel shader + scaling and set out to try and replicate that.
Well, that's where things got tough, I have no idea how to get this direct3d.diff from http://www.si-gamer.net/gulikoza/ to work. I guess it's the latest version and also the one that the dosbox daum uses, but please don't tell me to use that one, i had some problems with it after managing to get the game working. I'm sure it's because i'm not paying attention, but i don't want to focus on 2 things at a time, i just want to get to know dosbox, tweak everything to my liking and then move on.
edit: I don't mean I hade problems with the direct3d.diff, but with the daum dosbox. but it really doesn't matter, i want to do it with the vanilla dosbox
I'm really losing focus if i switch tabs and I do it often because of my ADHD condition. I'm pretty cool with what I managed to learn so far., but if I can just make it tweak a bit more, make it look better, I would love to do that.
If you can tell me how to get the direct3d working and tell me where I need to paste the files, i'll handle the rest. I'm not bad with searching, I'm just bad with managing my tabs, i jump from one thing to another. Search for something, than instantly do something else. i'm like that 😢
Also, if you have any other tips, what works best with what. Game is running good as it is, the text is smooth, the game is smooth, but still the textures look really bad in a city I am in Arena, especially when i move around , so if those pixel shaders help, i'd like to try them out.
There were also some posts, also on steam about some preconfigured dosbox with everything, but the links were removed, so bad luck there...
Anyway, sorry for going into too much detail, please help me with get the direct3d and shaders working, thanks.
