Are there still any new ATX PSUs made that give -5 volts? I have a couple of old ones, but I don't know the history of them and I'm usually a bit scared about electrical stuff when I don't know where and how they have been used.

I believe there are. StarTech sells one for example. What I do is use an ATX to AT adapter with a -5V converter. They aren't really cheap, but I can use modern power supplies without having to worry about reliability.

I too use a converter for -5v. Using old PSU's from the -5v era tends to be a crap shoot right now. Most PSU's of that era were generic and after 15+ years should be rebuilt with new caps and other passive parts if they under heavy use for years (and that's hard to determine if its a second hand unit). The converter allows you to use a modern, branded PSU for vintage hardware like Pro Spectrum's or Roland midi cards.

One can build a converter.
All you need is an LM7905 and a couple of small caps. Cost? About 1-1.5 USD max 😜

Why more PSU makers deprecates the -5V? is there any specific techninal reasons why they were doing that?

It is not part of the standard anymore, and no PCs without ISA slots can use it.

Don't you also need to add some wiring to the main harness? I'd like to hear more about this DIY converter.
