I'm trying to narrow down possible problems with this 486 mainboard that seems dead. The PSU had a blown varistor that I replaced and it seems to work fine now. I did try with another PSU, but didn't get any further. On visual inspection I couldn't find anything wrong with the board, but obviously there's something. I swapped the CPU and tried different memory configs to no avail. I'm pretty sure the clock chip is dead, but that itself shouldn't prevent POSTing. The only sign of life I get is that keyboard lights flash when it starts and the CPU gets hot (too hot?). Any thoughts or should just let this one go?

I'd try reading the BIOS EEPROM/EPROM with a programmer. Maybe the BIOS chip is busted.
