One of my motherboards has (had) and rechargeable drum battery. I have removed it in order to replace it. I can no longer find such batteries and only can buy normal drum batteries. Should I replace with rechargeable or can I safely use an normal one? (286 motherboard).

Normal won't work as it will be charged by the mobo and will explode - never charge non-rechargeable batteries.
You need to either install a diode to prevent charging or modify the mobo to stop charging or use the EXT battery connector if available.

4.5V is a pretty typical rating for the external battery connector. If you can get a 3xAA or 3xAAA holder it would work well. Just make sure to place it away from the board in case it leaks

Problem is Serbian import tax that they calculate them self. An simple battery can end up 3x more expensive for no reason.
There are a few more battery shops here so I will check them out.

Maybe break up a rechargeable PP3, they are normally a stack of 7 oblong buttons, but fastening connections would be difficult unless you have a DIY spot welder - the other source of these rechargeable cells used to be surplus Pye pocketphone batteries - I used to convert them to PP3!

Alternatively, wire the barrel battery points to a 3x AAA holder and load it with NiMH (or NiCd if you can get them) - NiCd may be more tolerant of sustained low level trickle.
