I recently acquired a Gemlight GMB-486UNP motherboard with a 486DX2/66. Of course it came with our friend the Varta barrel battery, which had leaked significantly all over itself but not spread to the board. I removed the battery and the board does still boot up, but before I throw it in a case I need to replace the battery... and I'm not sure what to replace it with. There is an external battery header at J2, which I thought of attaching a CR2032 carrier to as has been shown in previous threads I have read here... but the board manual says that pin 1 is "VDD(6v)". That seems particularly high and rules out a 3V CR2032 in a carrier, or similar batteries. What exactly does it expect to be connected there?

Maybe a 4xAA battery holder (4x 1.5v=6v) is required that will connect to jp2.

I ran into the same issue with a couple 486 boards I had and found that 3v worked on one and 6v worked on the other.

I think there are some topics here on vogons discussing this...I would search and see what you come up with.

Re: SY-4SAW2 battery

I both use 3xAA and 4xAA battery boxes and they both work without issues. Connectors for external battery packs that I've ever seen are always 4 pin. This is also the case during the rimes when I was a service tech repairing old 386/486 boards with depleted or faulty batteries.
