So, I got this wifi board that Works with wpa, the cd driver says it Works with Windows 98 but it "required a newer" Windows version :V, so I went to the manufacture webite and got a working driver...

The only draw side, is that the computer will freeze when the system is working for some time, but without drivers and the third party software to connect, the system Works fine '-'.

The wifi uses a Ralink chipset is the Ralink rt2561

I had installed some of those boards, and the results may be random.

On some computers, it works better with ralink drivers and software, on others works better without the software. Also, depending on which manufacturer (Conceptronic, Edimax, etc), which OS and which driver revision it worked fine or dropped connection randomly.

And last, but not least, I suspect that the cards made some wpa processing using the CPU... slower systems worked fine using wep but couldn't connect using wpa.

(Hint: for better connection, don't forget to buy a wired antenna... using an antenna connected directly to the card puts the antenna between all the PC connections and cause interferences, leading to a low quality connection)

The performance was actually good, it droped almost just 1fps on a k6-3+ 400 quake 2, also it worked fine playing quake 2 online...

But, it's random, some times I'm doing something on the system and bamm, freeze, I thought it was the usb/sound card problem, so I disabled it, but still it's there...
The board is a COMTAC Wireless G...
About the software, is there a way to connect to wifi without using that Raui software? (using a third party one since Windows 98 cant manage wifi stuff)

EDIT: The driver that I'm using is this one: http://www.comtac.com.br/download/driver/9009/win.zip
it's a generic driver I think (it's 100% english)

As the usb system problem fix, I managed to try the same for the wifi card.
I did a swap from the pci slot and I placed it on the pci slot that's doing the isa bridge btw isa and pci...
I'm posting from that computer, and I think I'm running for about 5 minutes withoutfreeze, so I think it's a good sign (my default freeze time was 12 minutes when the wifi is connected so I hope it'll survive for at least some minutes more D:)

EDIT: pff it was too good to be true xD.
The system froze when I was changing btw google web and google images.

90% of the crashes were when I was running Firefox, I'm gonna try only using ie and see if I can freeze it

EDIT2: Nop, freeze on ie6 too ;--;
well, I noticed that on kernelex, when I set to xp mode, the software is diferent, but I can't open it, maybe there's a combo software, if it's running xp it'll open a software x, and if it's 98, maybe it's running another outdated software

EDIT3: WTF
I'm playing like 20 minutes of quake 2 online on the same computer, and still no freeze, could be something in specific that is doing all the problem with browsers? (maybe the tcp itself?) or ipv6

EDIT4: Only because I said >.> ...
The game froze when the second round finished, it froze in the loading screen, I can't do nothing, but keyboard leds can be turned on and off this time

EDIT5:Alt tab worked and when I did it, quake 2 was closed, AND, the wifi was disconnected 😮, I needed to reescan teh wireless signal to find my wifi again

Hey guys, I'm playing with pci bios configuration, and it looks like the faulty configuration was related to "cpu to pci write buffer" being enabled, now it's working just fine 😁
and hell, I miss how fun was playing quake 2 online D:, playing on a k6-3+ 400 (oc to 500), voodoo 3 3000, crt monitor and a dimm keyboard, thats purist xD (except for the wifi board)
