I was recently given an AM486 DX4-100 box with an 800meg hard drive that died a little while after I got it home. I don't want to try my luck with 25 year old hard drives on ebay and I've heard good things about industrial DoMs on the forums. The VLbus IDE controller the system uses doesn't support LDA so I was thinking I would find it a small enough DoM. What I don't know is what brand should I try and get.

I've been looking at either

or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?It … =9SIA3RU18A7327

May your frames be high and your temps be low.

I went with the Innodisk EDC8000 4GB, which is perhaps rather overkill, but I wanted to run several operating systems and it's an industrial SLC DOM so should stand up to anything. There's much cheaper MLC DOMs out there, but I figured I'd buy something that will last, and high capacity isn't that important.

Transcend DoM works well for me. You can also try out IDE2CF for more or less equal results. Just don't go IDE2SD, they are more quirky due to having their own logic.
