Hi all ! Just bought two XT machines - original IBM XT 5160 and Pravetz-16, Bulgarian XT clone... Both their MFM HDDs are dead... somewhere on this forum I saw a link to a site where one can order ISA8 to SD MFM emulator... Does someone know such services, where an emulater for that can be ordered ?

Not exactly. You may look for XTIDE and similar cards. Those cards have their own BIOS and allows to connect IDE peripherals to any PC.

There are some CF to IDE and SD to IDE adaptors that you could connect to a "pure" XTIDE card... because you may find some cards based on XTIDE that have CF or SD slots instead IDE connectors.

Also, keep in mind that your XT machines will be probably running version 3 of MS-DOS. That version will allow to format partitions up to 32 Mb (except Compaq MS-DOS 3.31A, that can format up to 2Gb), so a card bigger than that would be probably a waste of space (unless you don't have such a small card).

I have traveled across the universe and through the years to find Her.

I'm selling some stuff!

I second replacing MFM with good old IDE.

Btw, do you have the documentation for that Pravez-16? I have a CGA card from a Pravetz-16 with some headers I'd like to know the pinout of.

my vote goes to this: https://www.lo-tech.co.uk/product/lo-tech-isa … mpactflash-pcb/ , basic and cheap : you get to use a CF card as a harddisk in your XT, what else is there to wish for? 😁

Second that, only through-hole components. I managed to assemble 2 and I really suck at soldering. Basically I don't have any soldering skills at all (or proper equipment) but still was able to pull through it and both worked on the 1st try.
