Hi all,

I'm trying to get Privateer to run under MS-DOS mode (it won't run in a window), launched from Win98. To make matters worse, I'm trying to do it using onboard sound (VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller (WDM)), not a card.

I can get the game up without sound, but I can't get any results from VDMsound under Dos. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Please find out for me exactly what VIA chipset this is, whether by telling me your precise motherboard name and model, or something else. If you can do this, I can tell you if DOS drivers are available for the chip.

If you have the alpha port of VDMSound to Win98 and then choose to have the system restart in MS-DOS mode, you lose the benefits of VDMSound. In case you didn't know - restarting in MS-DOS mode means that you are no longer running Win98 but actually running the version of MS-DOS that is included with Win98. As I said, VDMSound is only usable in Windows OS's - not in MS-DOS. If the game will run in a MS-DOS "window" when running Windows, then you can run VDMSound. If you force the MS-DOS "window" in Windows to go fullscreen, you can continue to use VDMSound. But if in Win9x you choose to restart in MS-DOS Mode, you cannot use VDMSound as VDMSound only runs in Windows.
