I have a Soyo SY-K7VTA Pro 1.0 motherboard that I'm using with 98SE. I like this motherboard a lot despite its 686B quirks. However, I am having a problem getting 98SE to recognize any USB ports that I connect to the USB3 and USB4 headers.

I'm pretty sure that I'm lining up the connector to the header in the right orientation. I have the motherboard manual, and there are only four pins: +5V, (-) Data, (+) Data, GND.

I tried two different connectors, a standard 2x5 pin connector attached to a slot cover with ports and a Mitsumi FDD with a flash drive reader.

I loaded the driver for the Mitsumi, but 98SE doesn't even recognize that new hardware has been added, even when I manually search.

USB is enabled in the BIOS.

The USB1 and USB2 ports attached to the motherboard work fine.

Are these USB connectors proprietary, kind of like the old serial and parallel port connectors, or is there some sort of malfunction here? Thanks for any advice!
