I currently have a Windows 98 SE computer with a Voodoo Banshee on board. How do i go about upgrading to a Voodoo 3 without reinstalling Windows in the process?

Should i just swap the video cards and then install the Voodoo 3 drivers? Do i need to remove the Banshee drivers? Is it better to remove the Banshee driver first, and then swap the cards, or can i do it after?

Finally, what is the proper way to uninstall the Banshee driver? Is it done through the Device Manager? I would appreciate it if someone could clear up the process for me.

It is usually better to remove the drivers (it they provide an uninstaller in the "add/remove programs"), but it should be fine to just swap the cards.

If you want to be sure to have no driver leftovers then uninstall the drivers in the control panel
and run driver cleaner before you swap the cards.

Device manager is enough. It's not a mdoern nvidia card; you can do it

Voodoo drivers often share filenames and will overwrite each other in driver installations, and a Banshee is more or less a V3 proto-relative, so the upgrade should be painless. 😀

Before swapping out a video card, I make sure to change the adapter to "Standard VGA (PCI)"--or something like that--and then reboot.

At that point, you can uninstall the Banshee drivers if you like. Then swap in the V3 and load the V3 drivers.
