I want to mount a fan on my video card's heat sink, but i don't know which type of fan is designed for that. Help me choose which one is most appropriate.

Here are my choices:

Does the "bearing" matter? I don't really know what the differences are. I plan to mount it to the heat sink using bolts and it will be positioned horizontally (facing the ground). The video card is a voodoo 3 2000 if that matters.

Most Voodoo 3s didn't have any mounting holes in the PCB and I only mounted a fan to a PCI model once, using those wires which resemble cable management wires (the stiff ones which remain in their form after you bend them).

I think the fan you choose is basically mostly a matter of taste here btw, as these cards ran without a fan pretty much just fine, so just use whatever fan isn't too loud for you and still has some airflow I guess.

You'll have to use screws to attach the fan directly to the radiator, so if any of them fits, they all do.

From what I understand, 40x40x20 is better than 40x40x10 if you don't mind your card using obstructing an extra slot.

btw, I don't trust Evercool anymore, the only 40x40x10 fan that I bought new and already broken (screaming bearing) was Evercool. I just get random chinese stuff for such appliances.

You can do a ghetto fan mod sometimes with zip ties to allow the use of a 60 or 80mm fan.

Most video cards that don't have a fan don't have one because they don't get hot enough to need one.

If it has a fan header on the card it may be either 5v or 12v. So check before you go ordering a fan.

The CFM is more important than the physical size as to cooling ability.

I prefer Delta fans for this. They cost more but they last longer.

You're right wrt CFM. I like low RPM fans when I can get away with it, that's all.

I meant 10mm thick vs 20mm thick.
Some of the listed 10mm have better CFM than the listed 20mm.

EL is evercool's own http://www.evercool.com.tw/products/el_bear.htm
Sleeve is the most basic, shortest lifespan.

The other alternatives to fixing a fan onto the heatsink, are to use a slot plate fan, or a slot mounted fan bracket to position a fan over the cards - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PCI-Side-blown-Grap … %3D251879093930

There are other brackets that place fans blowing square on

The EL bearing is just a sleeve bearing with o-rings supposedly to keep the oil in.
To keep oil in the o-rings would need to be pretty snug (tight) which means you'd need more amps to compensate for friction at the o-rings.
Maybe I just wasn't looking but I don't recall ever tearing apart a PC type cooling fan that had an oil spill.
IOW, I'm just not buying their sales pitch.

I DIY (make my own) similar to these to hold a single 120mm positioned such that it gives some draft to all the cards.
Some of the RAID cards I use run far hotter than the video cards I use and actually need some extra cooling.
