Can DOSBOX be made to work on Linux running on an Opteron?

I believe there is a good chance that DOSEMU _CAN"T_ be made to work on the AMD 64. Is the same true for DOSBOX?

I am using Mandrake 9.2 rc1 for AMD64, on an SK8N board from Asus. I have tried everything, but I can't get DosBox to do more than give me a garbled font in a 40 character wide screen (instead of 80).

The DOSBOX program runs, but I am unable to mount any directories, or get any output from any of the commands on the Z: drive. They all just return the Z: prompt without giving any output. The built in commands DIR, CLS, EXIT, etc all appear to work though.

I have searched Google extensively, and I believe that I am not the only one with this problem.

I really need this to work. Can it?

Don't think there's been much success in getting dosbox to run with 64-bit machines.
