Hello all. I've noticed that HP, Intel and Compaq all use (or used) the same format part numbers: 123456-123

Is this coincidence or the result of some past collaboration between them?

Is this too much voodoo?

I don't know about Intel.

About Compaq and HP, Compaq was bought by HP some years ago (same as Digital and 3PAR). Every company had their own part numbers, and after those buyouts it seemed logical to use only a single numbering system. But beware, because you may find some "strange" part numbers mostly from "legacy" products (i.e.: A1658-60014 is a drive from a HP P9000 server).
