I have Windows 7x64 and a Soundblaster X-fi Titanium. I assume using 24bit, 48000Hz, as this is what it is set to in 'shared mode', but I have to admit I'm not sure what exactly that means and if that is the mode used by DOSBox/SDL.

I'm wondering what the best practices are for DOSBox's sample rate settings in this scenario, or where any sample rate conversion takes or should take place. A couple of questions:

- does it make sense to change all the defaults from 44100 to 48000, or should these match the emulated hardware's original rates?
- should I (always) be using 49716 for the OPL rate?
- if so, should the mixer match that rate, or is 'internal' resampling to 48000 also allright?
- does setting the mixer to 49716 have any adverse effects on other audio (MIDI passthrough, digital, cd audio, ..?)

Thanks for any info on this!

I always set all my rates to 49716 for maximum OPL3 quality, and I haven't noticed any adverse effects on other sounds. Other peoples' experience might be different though.
