As some of you may be aware all 512mb and 1gb versions of the 8800GTS do not work with certain VIA chipsets that use PCIE 1.0 and 1.0a. A few manufactures released firmware updates for their cards to work properly. Palit did not.

Does anyone have, or know of where I could get a firmware update released that supports GTS 1gb cards? I havent found any, and I cant swap out my mobo. Its a asrock 4coredual-vsta.

If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it, and im sure someone down the line will too.

Below is the card in question.

I would just use bios from those other companies.

Well as far as I know the 8800GTS only comes in 320 or 640MB flavours - there's no such thing as a 1GB 8800GTS. - http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/ … /specifications

Could you be looking for a 8800GT 1GB?

The 512mb gts released at the same time as the gs. The 1gb version came out some time later.

I cant find a 1gb version of the formware from anywhere. And im sure i cant use 512mb version.

That is most likely correct, although video bioses are getting more universal. If you cannot find one for 1 GB 8800 GTS, try 1GB GTS 250 or maybe even 9800 GTX+ will work. If you mind different clocks, edit it before flashing. As usual, have a fallback solution if things go wrong.

But would those firmwares include the 1.0/1.0a fix?

I see some forums say yes and some say no. Do you know if it will matter with drivers then? I wanted to use modified drivers for 98 that work with the 8800 gts

FYI : My 8800 GTX did not work with Win98 "alpha" driver for Win98SE (ie. 82.69 mod).

That is so freaking cool - I didn't know these variants existed. Is there a chance these are just a re-brand of a 8800GT?

Have you checked techpowerup.com BIOS collection?

Crap - after reading this: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-8 … -mb,1743-2.html it seems these are sort of a cross between the GT and GTX - so you need an exact BIOS for it... bummer.

Grab any firmware that will work and change the vender ID to Palit.

8800 GT has some units disabled. If there is bios for 1 GB 8800 GT, you can downgrade fully enabled chip we have here. Other way around will not work.
