Well...in answer to the question in the subject it's for running OS's that support more then 512MB. If you want to install more then only thing you can really do is use it as a RAM drive. Windows 98 does not use nor does it even need any more then 512MB of RAM.
well, the bios itseslf do tell how much ram there is on it, so that mean i could in a way get more memory on it?
It's a bit like a strangled P4P800, in that i has AGP 4x only and no dual channel ram ability. It does support up to 3.2GHZ P4 though with Hyperthreading and needs DDR400 memory with that.

The answer is for smaller ram sticks, silly. 512 sticks weren't common or cheap until, like, 2004.
According to the manual, it can take up to 2 GB of RAM. Yes, Windows 98 can't use that much, but Linux, WIndows NT, WIndows 2000, Windows XP, they can all use the full 2 GB.
Note that Windows 98SE *CAN* use up to 1.5GB.
