Hi,
to push the max out of my KT600 board I was thinking to try some solution wherever they exists to use a modern graphic card (low profile) with some PCI Express (1x or 16x) to AGP or PCI adapter and Ubuntu. I will still be cpu limited on the Barton, but maybe I will help it to free some cpu cycles with a newer GPU compared to the RV620 LE I've now.
Did anyone already tried these solutions? Are they better than the best AGP 8x cards (with bridge) considering that seems the only one easy to find is the PCI express to PCI adapter that will have lower bandwidth?

Thank

When upgrading my 7600GS to a HD 4670 (the 1GB version with DDR3) in my Barton 3200+ rig (decked out with 2GB DDR-400 and fastest harddrive I could afford), I noticed virtually no speed difference in any game I played, it still wasn't perfectly fluent (A64 with the same 7600GS was a bit faster), so I don't really expect any non-AGP graphics card to be able to actually improve gameplay...or at least with games playable on a Barton that don't use any brand new features not supported by any existing AGP card anyway.

edit: Woops, didn't see you were thinking more about Ubuntu and not gaming 😊
I don't know the answer to your question, but there's the possibility the bridge interface will either slow down performance or perhaps driver problems or some other unforseen issue may arise.

But I'll leave my reply as it may benefit someone else down the road 😀

Thank. And what about general 2D usage, web and multimedia? I would maybe benefit of newer GPU assisting technologies and maybe also lower power usage using some last generation pci express low end cards (the one you can find in shops nowdays).

EDIT: thank anyway I was thinking also lately to the HD4650 😁

By the way I can understand I am basically already at the top of the system possibilities. The sata 3 ssd disk is probably the only boost that I think permit me to use it as main pc. The Barton 3200+ has 2GB of DDR400 and the HD3450 card.

I could use something like this and try newer video cards...
