I want to record some gameplay, but when I finish recording, on the video is only the sound and a black screen playing it with vlc. Also, I tried installing the video codec, but it never works.

Any ideas why this happens and how to solve it?

VLC playback of Dosbox videos is broken since VLC 2.2.1 (?). The VLC3 development version is supposed to have fixed that

I like Media Player Classic with ffdshow tryouts, i.e. the Combined Community Codec Pack.

SMPlayer is also good choice.
