I am testing a late KT133 config and was thinking one of these cpu. I already have the Duron that seems ok with Linux but definetely the cache is not great. What do you think about the lack of SSE and hardware prefetch of the Palomino vs the Morgan core?
Thank
The KT133 doesn't support 133MHz FSB, got to have the KT133A for that.
Aaaaah the pain of VIA socket A.... everytime you had to deal with boards that you thought could do something, but then you needed an ''A''. 😵
KT133A, KT266A, KT333 (early ones still couldn't do 166fsb, so later ones were like an ''A''),KT400A
Not much wrong with the chipsets but it would have been nice if they made the right versions straight away. (Or used different names. Why kt133 if it cannot do 133fsb etc.)
Anyway, this is between athlon1400 and duron 1300? Athlon 1400 Thunderbird does not support SSE, Palomino one does. 1300 Morgan does also support SSE.
Thunderbird CAN be 100fsb, Palomino is 133fsb. Clock for clock a Palomino is a little faster than Thunderbird.
Maybe you can try and run a Barton at a low speed (fsb), it has 512kb cache.
