Hi all,

In my WinXP system I get the following error when I try to update the DOS version of Indycar Racing 2 to the Win95 version; it happens when it attempts to check for DirectX:

The procedure entry point SUnMapLS_IP_EBP_12 could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll

Hmm, said I. I found out that it was looking, in a Win95/98 system, for the kernel32.dll in the Windows/System subdir. WinXP has this subdir, but the kernel32.dll is found in C:\I386 and in C:\Windows\System32; NOT in C:\Windows\System. So I merely copied the kernel32.dll in the System32 subdir and placed a copy of it in the C:\Windows\System subdir. Thought I'd trick the old Sierra install file. I was wrong; it still couldn't find it.

Any thoughts on this, anybody? All isn't lost, I can still run the game in DOS mode using VDMS, but the Win version is preferable because of the ... well .. Win interface 😀

Thanks,

Ludomeister

You will probably need to run the update from a 9x based system. You could use Virtual PC for this or do it from another computer. When you are finished updating the game copy the updated files to the game folder on your XP computer. If it asks to overwrite any existing game files let it do so. Hopefully it will work now; if it does zip up those updated files and keep them so you won't have to go through so much work next time. 😀
