Hi, I saw Plextor SCSI drives that used the CD caddy (oh how neat I wish they had caught on) recommended as a DOS drive but I had some questions.
How quiet are they in general? Is there a specific model? What about CD-R (I don't care about RW CD's are cheap) support? CDRW is a bonus I guess.
How much memory do the SCSI drivers take up? Will I be struggling with some games to find enough conventional RAM ?
Is the port on a CT2290 IDE or SCSI? Will it work with whatever drive?
Am I better off just getting a cheap quiet DVD-ROM and limiting the speed with CDBeQuiet?
Basically I just want an inexpensive drive, that is quiet, and will read CD-Rs at least. I remember my first CD-ROM I think it came from compUSA, it was like a jet engine holy crap, even my tower cases cover would vibrate 😵 (I wanted the CD-ROm / Sound Blaster kit but my dad got the wrong thing probably because it was cheaper, first one was defective, and then they wouldn't let him return / exchange for the SB kit what a sucky christmas)
