Ok, running Windows XP pro, Nvidia GeForce 4 4800 ti, about a gig of RAM, Asus P4P motherboard, Pentium 2.8 Ghz processor, Directx 9.0b (or whatever the latest version is - downloaded and installed it last night)

Master of Orion 2 runs great, except when I discover new technology, it doesn't like to show my scientist guy, and the little spinny display of the technology leaves tracers too. It also likes to crash sometimes instead of showing my newfound happy technology, but with frequent saving, I can *usually* get by with that.

Tried DOSBox and it just makes the game run ultra slow and without sound. Tried the compatability package from M$ and it didn't seem to help. I must be missing something glaringly obvious that's gonna make me look and feel like an idiot once someone tells me what I missed, so I came here for help. Yarg.
