Does anyone know if a motherboard that uses a MX 29F001TPC-12 (1Mbit 128Kx8) could use a AT29C010A (1Mbit 128Kx8) instead. They both have identical pinouts, voltages, etc. I'm just don't know a lot about CMOS Flash and I'm a little worried they might not have compatible erasure sequences or something like that. (Is that a thing?) Has anyone tried something like this before?

AT29C010 Datasheet

I'm having trouble finding a MX 29F001TPC-12 for sale anywhere.

For more background:
I recently got a Soyo SY-5EMA+ Super Socket 7 motherboard but it was missing it's BIOS chip. I have another SY-5EMA+, and tried the BIOS from it in the other board and it seems to work fine.

What I'd like to try it to buy another BIOS chip, and try to hot flash it.

I peeled up the sticker enough on the working board, and found that it's a MX 29F001TPC-12.

Anyone know more about this realm? (BTW, I'm a Vogons newb)

They should be compatible.

I have had pretty good success in using different branded EEPROM chips of the same size and configuration, even the sketchy looking ones from China.

Just an update for anyone interested.

I got the AT29C010 and attempted to hot flash it.

It worked great on the second attempt. The trick is that you can't use AWDFLASH.EXE, you need to get Uniflash.

Uniflash detected the new chip and flashed it just fine.
