Maybe it has a dx that's just using an sx case?

Maybe, but unlikely. While the DX was socketed and could technically be replaced (with a very limited number of options), the SX was not. So if the motherboard is original, it will be an SX. If that's all you're going on though, it could be a 486 or Pentium motherboard in that case!

Or a z97 mobo with atx-at power supply adapter and the motherboard sticky taped down 😜

I would guess that if the motherboard has been replaced, it's probably just a 486...otherwise there would probably be a CD-ROM drive installed.
