A site I use (oi, no snatching it!) lists a FX5500 under the PCI-E graphics category (they only deal with PCI-E).

So is there such a thing, I can't find ant reference to it ever existing in PCI-E, though a few other FX models did.

If not, then it must be an AGP, or possibly PCI (no E)

There is yes but they were never common and are a bit rare these days as they were a short lived product.

Pretty much this. All of the Nvidia PCX cards are hard to find and short lived.

By the way there was even a pcie gf4 card.

With my luck, it would probably be the "rare" PCI-E version rather than a misplaced AGP, having thoughts of reviving an AGP system, and the best in my collection at the moment is a GeForce 4MX

I thought the PCX cards might make a neat topic for a video. Why? I'm not sure. There's really not much to say about them. They'd perform exactly the same as the AGP versions. It's just kind of a novelty to have 2003-era hardware on PCI Express. Or as Jade Falcon said, even 2002 DX7 hardware on PCI Express.

Eh, whatever. It would make for a catchy video title. I think honestly I just want them more than I actually have a use for them.
