I'm building a Voodoo system with a Voodoo2 PCI and a Voodoo3 3000 AGP. Having various motherboards and CPUs, I'm curious what kind of CPU would match best being able to play any game a Voodoo3 3000 can play at 1024x768 without going overboard. I have a underclockable PII 400, PIII 450, 650 and 933MHz. Motherboardwise, I've got an ASUS P2B-F and an ASUS P3V4X.

A pentium III is both cases around 700-1 Ghz will do the job perfectly, utilizing the voodoo cards to about their max . A voodoo 2 sli/3 are about equal in performance.

My vote goes for PIII 600B, it would be period correct and just perfect for glide games @ 1024x768 resolution, your 650 coppermine would be best match out of the bunch. 700MHz+ PIII's demand something better than V2/3.

The heatsink on my 933MHz is 80mm so that makes it perfect for an 80mm fan. Much quieter. Wouldn't have much use beyond it. Next up would be an Athlon XP or Athlon 64 setup.

I choose p3b-f and p3-700mhz for my v3 3500tv setup so your p2b-f with the 650mhz would 've been my choice from the parts you have.

asus tx97-e, 233mmx, voodoo1, s3 virge ,sb16
asus p5a, k6-3+ @ 550mhz, voodoo2 12mb sli, gf2 gts, awe32
asus p3b-f, p3-700, voodoo3 3500TV agp, awe64
asus tusl2-c, p3-S 1,4ghz, voodoo5 5500, live!
asus a7n8x DL, barton cpu, 6800ultra, Voodoo3 pci, audigy1

I like the P3V4X cause USB mice and keyboards work with it in DOS. Is that the case with the P3B-F?
I may get a P3B-F someday, especially with two ISAs. I got the P2B-F for the 440BX but I haven't really used it. I haven't had any issues with the P3V4X and apps like throttle or speed hacks/fixes have gotten everything working fine like King's Quests games and Descent 1.
