sorry i've been posting often but while im trying to see if i can make my ESS1898F work in 3.1/Dos(im using a diffrent system)i'm still struggling with another matter

this Aztech SoundGalaxy Basic 16 is giving me headaches! i finally got the issue solved of the offsounding Midi playback in windows, and i can now launch Epic Pinball, i cant get any sound! i hear over my speakers a "pop" when it initializes the soundcard but no SFX , no Music only way im getting ANY sound from Epic Pinball, is by selecting PC Speaker. and making sure its not just bad config, The Adventures of Willy Beamish works just fine

Wave address is 530h
FM address is 220h
IRQ is 2
DMA Channel is 0
interrupt is 10 (yet its weird in windows it says unavailable and it routes it to 11 😒 )

its setting it properly via Autoexec.bat and config.sys
i used teh drivers from the Aztech ISA Archive up on teh driver library ("BAS207_1 BAS207_2 BAS207_3")

now strangely i've had it work before w/ this card and PC its only recently i just changed hard drives and only changes really is use of memmaker / Seagate's DDO (as the only spare IDE Drive i had was a 20GB, surprisingly the IDE Controller card in this system can address upto an 8GB Barrier.)

i want to get this card going atleast still i can get my mits on a basic little Sound blaster 16.

Is the model number of your card I38-MMSN810?
I presume you're trying to set it up under Windows 3.1?

Try running SGP16FIG (under DOS in your SGBAS16\Utility directory) and change the settings of the card to the default settings (A220 I5 D1).

If you're running Windows 9x, install the drivers and manually configure the sound card settings under the Device Manager.

The fact that Windows doesn't allow you to use IRQ10 tells me you have another device that is using IRQ10. Try and find out which device and change that device's settings to a different IRQ (after you've reconfigured your sound card to the default settings).

EDIT: What is your hardware specifications (CPU, etc.)? The Basic 16 is speed sensitive and doesn't operate well in Pentium 1 and faster systems.

your right on the nosey w/ Model #, and under dos & Windows 3.1

i did run SGP16fig and went to default. i guess by Jumpers, this reverted to A220 (was A240) I7 (was I2) and D1 (was D0)

i cant run Windows 95 not without Constraints. im not sure how to check whats using IRQ10, and specs?
Cyrix 486-33mhz
20MB Simm Ram
i havent paid attention to what PSU its using.
the System has a 20GB HDD via a DDO
nothing is really intergrated in this Mobo. so it has an IO controller card, an IDE controller card 2 LPT cards, an VESA videocard (one of teh early Cirrus logic ones)

If you're running on MS-DOS 6.x, then you can run Microsoft Diagnostics (MSD.EXE) that will provide you with some information.
Alternatively, download Navrátil System Information from http://www.navsoft.cz/products.htm.
Very useful utility and can even save your motherboard and video card BIOS images to disk.

IRQ7 is normally used by the LPT1 (parallel port)
You can normally change this to use IRQ5 (to avoid conflicts with your sound card)

Or, just disable your parallel port if you're not planning on using it. Although, this might "break" compatibility with the built-in Covox Speech Thing/Disney Sound Source support (necessitating the use of the virtual parallel port jumper on the sound card).

That's a good point! But I wonder, did Covox-aware programs use any IRQ ?
If I'm not mistaken, some simple parallel port cards had no IRQ jumpers at all (just a base address).
That's why I also wonder if that virtual Covox uses one, too..

On this sound card (and some other first generation Sound Galaxy cards) it only requires the presence of a parallel port (the virtual parallel port is setup at address 278h). There are no additional IRQ's required for Covox Speech Thing/Disney Sound Source support.

The two IRQ's required is for Sound Blaster and Windows Sound System support.

However, the parallel port (in the PC) is usually mapped to a specific IRQ.

Isn't Epic Pinball only digitized sounds and music? That might be a troubleshooting clue. Try a different WAV address?

Also, maybe try reinstalling it in case there are some corrupted files.

Ah, okay, I never had a Sound Galaxy card, but that makes sense. Thanks! 😀

i tried multiple times *shakes head* same thing. as for the mysterious "Free but in use" IRQ10, there was a CD Rom controller card that had RCA Stereo out set to IRQ10 i just removed the card.

i still want to diagnose and see whats wrong w/ the card but for now incase something else goes wrong i got a CT4170 arriving in 9 days, but im not sure why its only with Epic Pinball the Aztech card cant output any sound.
