  • HARDWARE - GLIDE - VOODOO 1
  • HARDWARE - GLIDE - 2D -
  • HARDWARE - SLI Voodoo 2 (Typically with S3 card of similar)
  • SPEC - Directx 6 - (See Monster Glide or Windows XP)
  • SOFTWARE - CNC Program ABC (See Windows XP rig)
  • GAME - Original Blood (See MONSTER GLIDE rig)
  • TYPE - 386 (OLD DOS)
  • TYPE - 486 (DOS)
  • TYPE - Win98SE (LATE DOS\DOS COMPATIBLE)
  • SFX - GUS
[*} SFX - Sound Blaster + Daughter Card

[/list]

I'm sure over time we can figure out how to create a matrix for reference here that might even turn into a database. But we really have to flesh this out first. Over time we can just start referring to requirements "You need to check the MONSTER GLIDE RIG thread" etc.

Lets for all intents and purposes try to focus on the most common niches. And then what's left, if it's been done right, will be game specific builds. And there should be very few of these. Off the top of my head, Tomb Raider Power VR, 1600x1200 Blood etc.

Maybe a dumb question but are you suggesting to divide the forum into these genres? If so, I think it could be a nice feature. As a newbie I often stumble upon good but old reads on this forum, perhaps as a result from a google walkabout.

So would you like to include 286 and 8088 class machines under "old dos"? Should there also be a section for modifications and tweaking? Some of the forum members appears to be more of hardware enthusiasts than gamers. I know the fundament of the forum itself is the interest for old computer games, but it's also a very nice place to share ones joy of the actual machinery IMHO. Perhaps some indexing or database of peoples rigs could be a good thing.

No, really more so working on an official thread. There's not enough of us to split this forum into every build type. But I'd say that a large portion of the questions on here can be boiled down to "you're asking what the best X rig is."

For those of you out there that are programmers or have gotten into logic problems, this is also a "bin packing problem."

e.g. How do I build a glide rig that's also an XP rig and dual boot with Win98SE?

So we can also figure out the degree of overlap and the minimum number of optimal systems (barring game or system or spec XYZ)
