So I have an ASUS K8V and an Athlon 64 3000+ and I got a Quadro FX 3000 (GeForce 5900 equivalent). So not knowing before hand, the motherboard only supports 1.5v AGP cards not 3.3v. It would crash hard in a minute during nvidia demos requiring me to pull the CMOS battery to get it going again. 6800 GT works great but it is a 1.5v.

So, know of such a board or even a Dell Dimension/Precision that supports such a card?

Thanks!

As far as I know, 3.3V AGP K8 chipset doesn't exist. On the other hand, FX 3000 supports 1.5V AGP, there shouldn't be any problems concerning AGP compatibility.

There is no Athlon 64 chipset with 3.3V AGP support. Also, The Geforce FX series is AGP 8x compliant which means it supports 1.5V and 0.8V AGP signals.

The problem you have must be something else. Maybe it is overheating? Have you plugged in the molex connector? If you have, maybe the PSU is either dying or to weak to provide enough power. Or you have driver issues, that could also be the case

BTW, IF AGP voltage would be the problem, You would have fried either the motherboard, or the GPU or both already.

I'm not sure what is up with that motherboard. It just didn't like it. I ran the 6800 GT without issues for quite some time. PSU is a brand new Corsair CX450.

Well, I had a Dell Dimension 8300 and I tested that for a while, no issues. Its for a Windows 98 machine but the 8300 has a 3.0 GHz. I hope I have a slower CPU for it. A nice bonus is that the Dell case muffles the sound of the Quadro. It gets kinda loud on load.

im not entirely certain about this but i believe the power requirement problem of the fx series was much bigger than attaching one power connector; if i remember correctly it is up to the card to dissipate load between power connector and agp port; i also believe some boards did not get damaged instantly but over time; i am not sure what the problematic models were though; maybe check power reqs on board and gpu first? the 6xxx line had far lower power reqs iirc

I recall seeing someone with a Athlon 64 setup and voodoo5500 agp on 3dfxzone.it.

Wouldn't it be likely that the V5 was somehow hacked into running on such a board? Or that some hacking was at least involved?

I hate computers...

I decide to put it back in, stress test it, runs fine for much longer than it use to...

I like old consoles. NES, SNES, like to get a Genesis...

but still a PC gamer at heart ever since the original King's Quest on a Tandy 1000 8088 when they were current.

possibly, my understanding is that one can ether cut the voodoo5500 agp slot to fit or the agp slot itself and and supply 3.3v to the card ad run it in any board that supports agp 2x speeds.
