So I reflashed a GA-8I865GME-775-RH rev6.6 as it wasn't' recognising Core2 CPUs and I believe the BIOS is corrupt. As there is no POST of any kind, just a message indicating that the BootBlock is searching the HDD for a BIOS image.

Apparently, the BIOS backs up automatically to a hidden section of the HDD every boot in case it gets corrupted. In this state, you can't do anything as the BIOS is corrupted, so there are no options.

The problem is I can't seem to find a way of putting the BIOS image onto the HDD and this feature is totally undocumented. The BIOS chip is soldered directly to the board so I cant reflash or replace it manually.

I've found other threads where people have tried to solve this problem. Gigabyte are no use, and someone got as far as reverse engineering the BootBlock program but didn't figure out where it was looking for the BIOS image.

Any ideas?

My 775 board (an Asus) has some procedures to recover from that kind of situation, maybe some are also vaild for your board:

- Powering the machine on while a floppy disk with a good BIOS image on it (might reuired to be named as the board expected like "recovery.rom" or something, I'm not sure).

- Powering the machine on while its original installation CD is in the CD/DVD drive.

Good luck...

Suggestion.
Make a bootable Flash drive. (Rufus prolly)
Extract the BIOS from the download exe file.
If I'm looking at the right one it's "GME775P2.FE"
Copy GME775P2.FE twice and rename the copies so you have....
GME775P2.FE, GME775P2.bin, GME775P2.rom
Put all 3 on the flash drive.
Disconnect all existing drives. (With the power off of course)
Put the usb stick in.
Start the system.
- The Flash drive is now the only drive the BIOS can look for a BIOS image in.
I'm not convinced that will work but it might.
.
If that doesn't work try putting those 3 files in the root of your C drive.
