So ..I have the opportunity to own one of these ..
Sadly not a 'gold' version..
My question is ..how do you guys rate it ?
My current 98se/DOS gamer is fitted with a PCI soundblaster Live ..
Question is I guess ..
If you had to choose ..would you keep the Live card ..or substitute the 4380 ?
Or can I fit both ?
I have enough slots ..but might eat resources.
I get to choose in DOS...but 98se is another story..

For pure DOS the AWE64 is preferrable. For Windows games Live! is better. For DOS games under Windows they can both work.

All depends on where your priorities lie, and, yes, you can fit both at the same time. Search the forums; there have been many such setups.

I guess I will try and get both installed ...
I have many games that run fine under windows.
some that run ok under windows in a DOS window..
..and few that are DOS only ..
So ..best of both worlds is preferable ...rather than have to build 2 systems.
I use operating systems on pull out IDE caddies atm.

Yep, for pure DOS, the AWE64 is better.

Under windows, the Live! is better.

For mixed DOS/Windows workloads, the AWE64 will give you better DOS compatibility but for most games, only somewhat simpler capabilities. The Live! will not be as compatible with DOS games, but will offer more enhanced windows features and 3d sound.
