What is meant by "Windows desktop" as a platform for Skype distinct from "Windows 10?" Does it have anything to do with Microsoft Surface?

I think windows 10 infers that you get the app through the store whereas desktop means you get a .MSI you can run on any compatible windows version.

I believe Skype 8 comes in win32 and UWP versions but mabye the outcry was because the v8 win32 ver dropped alot of features that were in 7?
Whatever the ver of Skype that comes with 365 it looks like a POS but I have to use it for work so I only use it as much as I have to.

Skype in general is a POS and has been a POS since before MS acquired it; MS has merely continued the process (and recently began accelerating it). I honestly believe that Skype easily takes the crown as the absolute worst piece of software in mass use.

Skype is a leaky mess, but it's by no means the worst. I've used MS Project. 😵
