I have a bunch of Polk Audio RM6005 satellites I want to use with my machines. The problem? I don't have room for a receiver or amplifier for them and they really need a subwoofer to go with them. I do have the sub that came with them but it's being used in the livingroom with the rest of my audio equipment. I know that most of the older 2.1 and 5.1 PC speaker systems had the amp for all of the speakers built into the subwoofer so this presents itself as a decent solution: I get a powered sub and amp for te satellites without taking up much space. The problem I've seen on some older units I ran across at the local thrift stores was that they all had RCA jacks that went to the satellites. I can cut and splice cables and all of that, but I really would like to find a unit where I can use regular speaker wire to go out to my satellites.

Can anyone think of something like that?

Other than big expensive sets like the Logitech Z5500, you aren't going to find many that have speaker wire terminals. I have used cut-off RCA cables connecting a pair of compact JVC speakers (real wood cabinets) to the sub from an old set of Boston Acoustics speakers and it worked great. Most PC satellites are fed so little power at normal listening volumes (a few watts maybe... since they are usually high passed at 120-200Hz or more) that the tiny wires in an RCA cable should be sufficient.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

look for a used set of Klipsh pro-media 2.1 for computers. I had a set for several years and loved it. The sub had the amp for everything on it and normal speaker terminals as well. I now use that amp in my bedroom and the satellites from it in my game room as the rear channels connected directly off my receiver.
