Am running 640x480 8 bit graphics, dos software on dosbox.

Have seen what hq2x scaler looks like, and it seems that it's
not working, or barley looks like it's working.

Have seen hq2x work on other dos software, and it looks great.

So is it true, that hq2x in dosbox, can't work on 8 bit graphics?

Try adding "force". Normally, scalers only operate on lower-res video modes.

Changed the scaler to this.

1scaler=hq2x forced

With the above change, hq2x is now working.
