I bought a new real time clock Dallas DS12887A+ and when I got it in the mail all but 3 of the pins were bent as the packaging was just some bubble wrap in an anti static bag usually IC's have some polystyrene foam to stop the pins getting bent so I contacted the place I got it and they are sending me another one free of charge, I was able to straighten the pins but it does not work so im hoping the RTC has a dead battery and its not a fault with my motherboard, I have looked for the pin out and found this page:
https://datasheets.maximintegrated.com/en/ds/ … 5-DS12C887A.pdf
and on the third last page it has the pins for it and it says pin 12 is ground and pin 24 is Vcc, I guess this is looking at the chip with the pins facing down and the writing facing up but anyway I already got my multi meter out and tried every pin and It has bupkis its dead if I did it right. The place I got it from is here:

Even though none of the pins were broken off could it have been damaged from the pins being bent over? If the second one they send me is the same im going somewhere else. Does anyone here have any experience with the site I got it from are they known for good quality parts or are they bottom of the barrel?
