Hi everyone,

I had a broken power supply and motherboard lying around and I decided to take another look at it, but now I have some questions about repairing them. 😀

Motherboard
The motherboard used to have bulging capacitors and an issue that both PS/2 ports could not be used simultaneously So I went ahead and replaced the capacitors, but I ran into another issue. The PC will boot up and it will run fine, as long as you do not restart it. It doesn't matter how long you run it; whether you run Windows for a few hours or do some quick BIOS changes, it will result when you restart the PC. After you let it sit turned off for a few hours it will work again and do the same thing when restarting. When it refuses to start up, there is no display signal, there are no beeps and the CD-drives spin up and their LED's flash twice; after that it restarts itself and it keeps looping like this forever. What do you guys think could be the issue? 😕

Power Supply
When I last ran my PC with this power supply I remember coming sparks from the back of the case when plugging in any kind of cable. I was unfortunate enough to get sparked myself two times as well. When it sparked, the PC turned itself off immediately. I was also unable to use both a PS/2 mouse and keyboard simultaneously. I let the power supply sit for a few months in my attic and now I decided to open it up and have a look inside. I cleaned up all the dust that was in there, which was quiet a lot. I visually checked all the capacitors and I found one bulging and two leaking 3300μF 10V capacitors. I have not yet replaced them, because I wanted to check with you guys if this could be the problem. I mean bad capacitors are never a good sign, but I have never heard of them causing any sparks. What do you guys think? 😕

I'm looking forward to hearing from you guys soon and thank you guys for your help! 😊

Sincerely,

Miko, Strahssis

I replaced those capacitors on the power supply today and it works like a charm now; it's silent, no more sparks are coming from it and best of all, it actually works! 😀

I do really need help with my motherboard though. Do you guys have any suggestions please? 😊
