The Dallas RTC chip in my system died (DS12887A). It would freeze when posting. I bought a replacement and accidentally inserted it backwards. I corrected the orientation and now the system is in a reboot loop before it posts. Is it more likely I fried the RTC chip? I'm concerned I fried the motherboard or BIOS chip.

I inserted it the wrong way before and didn't fry the chip or the motherboard but I had to take everything off, ram cpu etc and reinstall before it booted up again.

Not sure what the consequences are, mine was on maybye 5 seconds before I realised and turned it off.

Thought id share my experience
