Hi yall,

I use VDMSound and I like it very very much,

I only have this problem with it...

When I play Monkey Island 2, it uses the Roland sounds, instead of the Soundblaster emulation -

how can I fix this, the roland sounds sound like crap 😀

It sounds like crap because MI 1 and 2 use MT32, not General MIDI ;-> You need to create a new .bat file (I called mine mt32.bat instead of VDMSRun.bat) that points to an INI that uses the mt2gm conversion, instead of the identity map.

Once done, MI 1 and 2 sound a LOT better.

Alternately, you can use the "monkey a" or "monkey2 a" command lines to force AdLib support.

Heh, I kinda figured out a weird way myself

I renamed the SOUNDBLAS.IMS to ROLAND.IMS and I renamed the ROLAND.IMS to SOUNDBLAS.IMS

Weirdly enough, it works!!!

But still,
could you mail me the proper way with that bat file??
I don't quite understand it... 🙁

mail me at
Jan@atari.net (if it's not too much trouble) (if you don't feel like it, leave it be 😉)

*shakes head* That because MI is still trying run the Roland driver, but it's running the SoundBlaster file because you gave it the Roland name.

I don't quite understand it...

"monkey.exe s" for SoundBlaster/AdLib
"monkey.exe r" for Roland MT-32/MIDI

Just copy the area between the quotes and paste in into notepad, give it a short, easy to remember name and save it into your Monkey Island directory. Then change the last three letters of that file from "TXT" to "BAT".

The "s" and "r" are read as parameters for the monkey.exe file.

Also, change the names of those .IMS files back, or you'll still have reversed output.
