Does anyone know if sound blaster audigy 2zs line in passthrough works in dos?
Basically I am trying to find out if I can connect dos isa sound card output to audigy 2zs line-in connector and it still works and you hear the sound in dos?

Baoran, you're present on this forum a lot of time, do you read it? A DOS mixer is done for Live and Audigy1 cards. It was not made for Audigy2 cards. ZS or non-ZS - it doesn't matter in practice.

In "default" - as Creative suggests us - no one of their EMU10k cards can enable Line-In in pure DOS.

Take Audigy SB0090 or SB0160 or SB0230 and it will work. Not only Line-In, ALL inputs will work. Including 5'25 Extension if you wish.

I do read it, but there is no way I can remember everything I have read here. Also I feel like the search function seems to be useless here when trying to find old information because it seems to ignore a lot of the search terms I try to use.
I'm sorry if I asked a stupid question, but I do always try to search for an answer before I ask. I just seem to fail quite often. I wasn't able to make the audigy card to work even in win98, so I don't think I will be using it in the pc I am trying to build.

I've found that by searching on Google (with "Vogons" in my search parameter), yields better results 😀

Baoran, first uninstall previous installed driver via CTAPPZ utility from Creative. And then install any other Creative driver. Do it always when you change Creative card in the system. And you'll can install any their card.

I told many times about A1-A2 differences. A1 can 5.1 sound and has SNR=100db. A2 SB0240/0280 can 6.1 sound and SNR=106db. A2ZS SB0350/0360 can 7.1 sound and SNR=108db. Both A2 generations can play DVD Audio 96 kHz (P16V unit of EMU10k3 DSP).

Then, about 5'25 Extensions: all Live/A1 units are interchangeable, i.e. you can use any Live 5'25 Extension with any A1 card and use any A1 5'25 Extension with any Live card which has 40-pin header. The A2 5'25 Extension can not be used with Live/A1 cards because it has another pinout.

But if you want to use A2 for sure plus full functionality in pure DOS you may continue DOS mixer project for A2.

I have a feeling that my audigy 2zx has too much corrosion in its pci connector for it to work properly because in one pci slot it was recognized that it is in the system with yellow mark in device manager but the driver installer didn't recognize that there was audigy 2 zs in the system and when I switched it to another pci slot it was as it isn't in the system at all.
Already tried using deoxit, but it didn't make much difference to the pci connector.

The attachment audigy2zs.jpg is no longer available

I wanted audigy to get eax in games and 48Khz dvd playback in win98, but perhaps SB live would work as well.

Is it difficult to find another Audigy card where you're living?
At my region there are a lot of A1/A2 for only $10-15.
Anyway if you're going to use Live I recommend connect speakers to rear out because rear out is not AC97 but is much more quality Philips DAC. In DOS there is no problem to use any output via EKM mixer. But in Windows I don't remember if the option exist or not (to duplicate front out to rear out). But it is better to get one working Audigy card 😀

I have not seen any audigy for sale where I am living unfortunately. I got the one I have from ebay for 15 euros and I thought it worked because I got the system sounds in winXP when I tested it in another computer last year.
I have 2 identical SB live CT4830 cards and I think I will be using one of them at least until I find something else that works. I do also have couple yamaha pci cards that are suppose to support EAX, but I read in the forums that they are not as good with EAX as creative cards.
I will check out if I can use rear out in win98se. I won't be using the pci card in dos, because I have ISA sound card in the system for that. Only thing would have been convenient in dos if I could connect isa sound card output to pci sound card line in so I can just have one set of speakers connected and get both dos and windows sounds without switching cable to another sound card.

😀 You didn't understand, I do not offer to use PCI sound card in DOS when you have ISA bus. I do not use my Audigy in DOS as sound card too.

It is called much simpler: PCI device is a mixer. Just connect to it ISA, CD, external MIDI and whatever you want.

I was only referring to you saying that using SB live rear out might be only available in dos and you didn't know if it would work in windows. I wasn't talking about using audigy in dos.

Yes, it doesn't matter for Audigy which analog output is in use because no one of them is AC97. See both schemes at this message: Multichannel DOS mixer for DOS sound builds v0.49 for Live, v1.01 for Audigy You can see that on Live cards front output and cen/sub output use AC97. And only rear output uses separate high quality DAC. Or you may choose SPDIF output and connect it to digital receiver. This variant is available too in pure DOS (with EKM mixer) and in Windows.
