Hello!
Iam building 2 computers before going on a retro lan in march! Iam just gona bring one as iam gona travel by train, but still nice to have 2 computers setup to test some games and so on 😀

First out:
Intel Dx4 100Mhz 16kb
Cache: 256kb -15
Memory: 16mb FPM
HDD: 400mb
Video: Cirrus Logic GD5428 2mb
Sound: Sound Blaster 16 CT2290
Iam thinking maybe take out the VRAM and put a Cirrus Logic GD5428 VESA 2MB instead.
I have not yet tested if the mobo VGA runs as VESA onboard..? But i feel like the picture is a little bit darker when using the onboard VGA.

Doom runs great on a 486... you'll like it better on a DX2, and you'll want more than 25 MHz, but yeah, it works. Lots of people still had 486's in 1994. It's a 386 that would kill your 3D FPS's.

Don't forget about Netkeen!

We had alot of fun linking games with null modem back in the days, dreamed about a koax or tp network.. We never got GTA1 to work without lag on lan later on tho, only null modem 😀 Even connected 4 computers with null modem cable and played starcraft, but that was crash laggy..

This lan is a socket 3 party, but dont think there is going to be many out of 16ppl that go under 100Mhz..
Myself iam gona set the bus to 40 on the Overdrive computer, and maybe even try 50. Pentium 125 mhz will go a loong way.
The mobo is a Asus PVI-486SP3 rev 1.2 btw.

I hope to play alot of
C&C
Red Alert
Civnet
Transport Tycoon
Doom
Warcraft
Settlers
Duke Nukem
Blood COOP!
And maybe some Carmageddon Splat Pak!
I even hope to get a Diablo Kill! It can be done from a socket 3! But it take some extra hardware or alot of commitment 😀

Warcraft 1 & 2, C&C, Red Alert, Doom's, Heretic, Rise of the Triad, Duke3d and GTA (yeh laggy for us as well)
Some of these would prefer something faster but me and my 2 mates played these games over and over between 1995-98 on our 486's

rekon you'll have an awesome time

Got the DX4 to run Windows 3.11 today, that was along time ago i touched that OS 😀
Iam gonna go for the Windows 95b\Dos7 solution on the Overdrive, but on this one i wanted to keep the real Dos 6.22 and dont bother alot of hassle, as windows 95b is not really good at bootloaders and hidden partitions or something, I read somewhere that it was something about the 95b version that was just off.

Nothing can go wrong, perhaps a new demo party is going to happen ? 😀 Gothenburg is a bit too far away from me. But Helsingborg or Malmö, I would be there in a jiffy 😀 Also I hope a Dane would be welcome 😀 Also enjoy your lan party 😀

And i dont think there is to much ppl, if you change your mind i can ask the guy that hosts the party if it is full! 😀
And enjoying the lan party i will! As loong as my windows 3.11/dos setup do as i want to 😀

Don't sweat it 😀 it is good to see , than Danes are welcome 😀 And as I said, enjoy it 😀 But if I chose to go to a party, I would actually just enjoy watching the action on the screens. Cause I am more of a spectator now adays, and second of all. I do not have a tower setup anymore. But still, have fun ! 😀

That's great (and looks like it was a real blast)! Any information on how popular it was? How'd you get word out?

All hail the Great Capacitor Brand Finder

So which games you end up playing?

Funny enough tomorrow I'm taking my Slot 1 P3 round to someone I met on freecycle last year that I got a scythe mugen 2 cooler from
In the last few months he's gotten a Pentium MMX and a P2? the MMX isn't up and running so were going to have a bin of Win9x gaming session, although no traveling CRT's for me. I really have no desire to relive that part of LAN gaming!

At Brain Drain there was alot of Unreal, Q3, Blood, Age of Empires, Starcraft, CS!
And the CRT is always tricky, need a car for that one, but it is part of the nostalgia! 😀
At the socket 3 lan i just borrow a CRT, wont get that one on the train 😀 hehe
