There is always-recurring discussion on the Vogons board about which network software to use for DOS and pre-95 Windows.
I really miss the PC/TCP suite from FTP Software, Inc mentioned there.

Which is a bit sad, because this is the only good and practically usable internet software for DOS I know of.

I found version 4.1 on an abandonware site.
The archive there needs some fixing up before it can be used.
The diskettes in the archive are sorted into directories 1, 2, ...

Rename these directories to "disk1", "disk2", ...
Go to the directory "disk1".
I first tried to install from Win98SE, but Setup.exe failed to start until I uncommented two lines "win95nfs" and "winntnfs" in Setup.inf.
This made setup run fine, but a lot of the stuff was missing.
So I ran install.exe from DOS, which worked just smoothly.

Now all the DOS stuff is installed:
InterDrive - NFS client
LPD, LPR, LPQ - network printing (easy when your printer supports the LPR protocol, like mine)
Telnet, rlogin - are in use even nowadays
ftp - of course
a number of utilities like tar, mail, usenet
and even FTP's own Winsock (only reliable one which works on pre-95 Windows )

Still a bit more configuring and then playing with it... I'll update thread.

Sounds good.

I'm using Trumpet Winsock on my 286 running Windows 3.1 just fine. Using the telnet and ftp clients from wfw3.11.

There's a glitch in the matrix.

Of course, as always, I'm open to correction...😉

Sounds like another fun project. Very good!
