(Sorry for the big wall of text up ahead)

I played this game in school a long time ago, and I decided to install it and go on a little nostalgia trip. The game installed fine, and the options menu runs perfectly, but the game itself refuses to run.

At first I would get nothing. No error messages. It would just appear in Task Manager and disappear 5 seconds later.

This game is... I wouldn't say it's obscure, but it doesn't get asked about often in forums, so I found very little help getting this to run. However, the forum threads I did find suggested to use Compatibility mode, so I set the compatibility to Windows 98 / Me (which is what the game was designed for), and finally got an error window. It had the title "SmartHeap Library" and the error code "MEM_BAD_POINTER".

I searched that error and found out that a lot of programs of that era used SmartHeap Library and also don't work on modern versions of Windows! But, the solutions I found were all for old (but still newer than 98) OSes like XP and 7.

I've been looking everywhere and have had no luck so far, so here I am making a thread here. Can anyone here help? Thanks in advance.

Edit for anyone finding this on Google:
I fixed it by downloading a patch from the creator's website: https://reg.knowledgeadventure.com/support_faqs.aspx
JSAdvKinderPatch.zip is the one you need. Glad I could help!

If all else fails, you can use a virtual machine. Or maybe BoxedWine would be worth a try?
