I believe socket 939 will be the newest AMD CPU's that won't work. AM2+ should be fine

There's a reason I've avoided Steam as much as possible, and whenever I've had to purchase something from Steam I've made sure there's a crack available first.

I know most people here are aware, but if this sort of thing bothers you always look for a DRM-free alternatives when possible. It isn't the first time something like this happened and won't be the last.

so Yorkfield is not Yorkfield! APPARENTLY those specific core 2 quad / 775 CPUs are truyl missing that one instruction. which is WEIRD that a q9550 would have it and a q9650 would not!

i think you can crack the whole client, that's what i did when they dropped support for XP. the community released and "offline" patch. think you can still setup with an old copy of steam/installer

Yep, it's still working, I'm using that Steam on XP pretty often. And I do think, that same general idea world work for this Linux issue as well. The problem is, that unlike with XP, this change came up without notice, and it would require to have someone with older Steam Linux build up test.
